This key "hands-on" Mgt. - Adm. position is involved in all aspects of the Company's Refuse Equipment maintenance operations.

Thorough knowledge of waste hauling equip. maintenance functions and procedures; sound business and personnel mgt. skills; excellent (employee) communication; electronic reporting; purchasing/inventory control skills, energy, intuitive thinking, and a detail oriented work ethic are required.

Maintenance/Shop Manager Position

The Maintenance/Shop Manager will be involved in all aspects of the company’s Commercial - Residential Refuse Equipment maintenance function.

This is a key position in the organization. It is a “hands-on” management and administrative support function. The position requires: professional business and personnel management skills, excellent communication, employee interaction, electronic reporting, and inventory management skills, energy, intuitive thinking, and a detail oriented work ethic.

Position General Responsibilities

• Manage vehicle, equipment, parts inventory, and general facility maintenance functions in an efficient and fiscally responsible manner.

• Manage Maintenance Personnel (select, train as necessary, direct/manage/assist as necessary, discipline, terminate, when necessary all assigned personnel).

• Purchase vehicle / equipment parts, fuels, necessary supplies to maintain buildings and grounds. ( Specification / cost information for and acquisition of equipment parts, materials and supplies)

• Establish and maintain an effective vehicle operating parts and supplies - and facility supplies inventory/inventory control system.

• Direct /Manage the Maintenance of all Buildings, Grounds and Yards, and make improvement, maintenance, cost recommendations for all buildings, Grounds, and Yards.

• Coordinate with / provide maintenance support to the Refuse Operations Manager/General Manager.

Specific Responsibilities

• Manage/Monitor/Report on expenditures for repairs and personnel assigned to conduct repairs.

• Schedule / Manage / Direct day-to-day activities of all shop personnel: including truck mechanics, welders, painters, washers, and housekeeping and heavy equipment mechanics.

• Ensure all cars, trucks and equipment are maintained in good, safe operating condition, and kept clean in accordance with company appearance standards.

• Establish vehicle and equipment yard parking stalls to maximize property utilization, and maintain vehicle, equipment inventory. (Coordinate with the Operations / Dispatch Manager so as to maximize operations efficiency).

• Maintain complete inventory and tracking procedures for all company owned tools over a value of $25.00.

Engrave and identify each with company inventory number and identification.

• Select, train as necessary, direct/manage/assist as necessary, discipline, terminate, when necessary, all personnel assigned personnel. Establish and monitor personnel performance, and administer disciplinary actions including letters and union relations.

• Communicate on a regularly scheduled basis with operations/dispatch personnel, and field superintendents to ensure proper maintenance is scheduled and, or repairs to vehicles and equipment is taken care of in a timely manner.

• Setup and maintain (all shifts) an operations inspection program. Monitor all work performed by mechanics and contracted mechanics to insure the quality of the work and that repairs are completed in a timely manner.

• Establish and maintain a visual inspection program for all trucks and equipment. Record any damage, body impairments, etc. Schedule necessary repairs to be done in a timely manner. Include the inspection of all truck / equipment identification markings (stripping, logos, phone numbers, graphics, etc.).

• Establish and maintain a vehicle and equipment wash schedule.

• Track and assign work orders for mechanics from driver reports, manager inspections, PM inspections, oil analysis and mandatory IDOT / FDOT, emission and safety lane inspections.

• Maintain shop files, maintenance, fuel use records for all company cars, trucks, trailers, heavy equipment and other owned assets.

• Ensure parts, tools, equipment necessary to meet scheduled and ongoing maintenance requirements are available to insure work orders can be assigned and completed in a timely manner. Establish and maintain supplier relationships to ensure availability in emergency situations to facilitate fast turn around times on repairs.

• Learn and, or efficiently utilize Squareriger paperless shop management software. Train shop personnel in the efficient use of shop management hardware. Produce management reports monthly for cost/service/ personnel time allocation, program evaluation and monitoring purposes.

• Establish and maintain a monthly buildings/facilities inspection schedule for ongoing maintenance. The following: compressors, lighting fixtures, HV / AC equipment, ventilation, sewer and water fixtures/outlets, roofing, overhead and walk through doors, fuel pumps, oil and grease pumps, safety apparatus, electrical distribution, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, gates and perimeter fencing, signage, general housekeeping/ grounds conditions (grass shrubbery, trees, weed removal), exterior / interior painting, and structural condition of the buildings/facilities represents an example of what is to be included.

• Maintain and track in yard fuel inventories. Includes purchasing of fuel at best market prices from suppliers. Record vender pricing at time of order to maintain an accurate log of vender market pricing. Record and report monthly on fuel usage by various cost centers (example, residential refuse, commercial roll-off, commercial flat rate collection routes, etc.)

• Procurement of all parts and materials necessary to maintain day-to-day repairs and maintain proper parts inventories in all shop Part rooms. Part selection and pricing to be monitored to ensure lowest cost from venders. Manage records and vender price schedules to be shared with supervisory management to ensure competitive / discounted vender pricing. Monitor and purchase vender tire services for all equipment including new and recap tire purchasing.

• Maintain all shop and garage facilities for fire and hazard safety. Ensure all facilities are kept swept clean and organized on and ongoing schedule.

• Conduct and record weekly safety toolbox meetings with all shop personnel. Maintain MSDS booklets for shop and driver employees.

• Maintain and insure all vehicle 2-way radios, vehicle tracking devices and other tracking/ monitoring components on vehicles and equipment are in good operating conditional, and or recording accurately. Insure repair, replacement backup or support plan is in place.
